Job Description
Job Title: Medical Doctor (General Practitioner or Family Medicine Specialist)
Reports To: Director of Clinical Services
Summary
St. HB Hospital seeks to recruit a highly experienced medical practitioner with exceptional clinical/professional skills and knowledge to provide a very high standard of medical care to our clients. The medical doctor will treat all common medical conditions at the Hospital and may refer clients for specialized investigations and advanced care as may be appropriate and according to medical protocols. The incumbent will report to the Director of Clinical Services at the HB Hospital. The successful candidate will receive a one-year full-time contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds.
Duties and responsibilities
• Provide emergency care services to clients.
• Receive clients and respond to their medical/health problems through history taking, physical examination, investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and referral as appropriate.
• Discuss treatment options (with clients) and ensure clear understanding of treatment plans by clients.
• Discuss side-effects, best conditions for use, and possible interactions of all medication before prescription to clients.
• Contribute to the delivery of improved care by working with other staff such as nurses, midwives, technicians, and other hospital staff to support continuous quality improvement efforts.
• Ensure accurate documentation, appropriate storage, and safety of client information, such as medical history, reports and examination results.
• Supervise and train medical students, as may be required from time to time.
• Participate in clinical research studies commissioned by the hospital.
• Accommodate rotating work shifts and flexible schedules.
• Advise clients and their families on health care including health promotion and disease prevention, such as counselling and support on health and lifestyle issues.
• Perform any other clinical duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from a reputable university is required.
• Specialization in family medicine will be of added value.
• At least five years of experience working as a medical practitioner (either as GP for at least 5 years or family medicine for at least 3 years) in a reputable hospital.
• Experience working in emergency and internal medicine departments.
• Excellent client management skills.
• Excellent communication skills, including listening, sensitivity, and the ability to provide clear explanations to clients.
• Ability to make appropriate clinical decisions in high-pressure situations.
• Sound integrity and strong professional code of ethics/conduct.
• License to practice medicine in Sierra Leone.
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English.

Job Title: Midwife
Reports To: In-Charge of Nursing and Midwifery
Summary
St. HB Hospital seeks to recruit a highly experienced midwife with exceptional clinical skills and knowledge to provide a very high standard of midwifery care to our clients. The post holder will be expected to provide support, care and advice to women before and during pregnancy, labor, and postnatal period. The position holder must be able to conduct deliveries on his/her own responsibility and to care for newborns, seeking medical assistance when required. The incumbent will report to the In-Charge of Nursing and Midwifery at the HB Hospital. The successful candidate will receive a one-year full-time contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds.
Primary duties and responsibilities
• Maintain high standards of midwifery and neonatal nursing care within a safe environment.
• Be responsible for the assessment, implementation and evaluation of care.
• Maintain accurate clinical/maternity and neonatal records.
• Participate in maternal and perinatal care review meetings as part of the multidisciplinary quality improvement team efforts.
• Organize the reception, transfer and discharge of patients.
• Administer medicines based on medical prescriptions, and on hospital policy.
• Report all incidents and complaints to the In-Charge of nursing and midwifery and complete appropriate documentation relating to these.
• Assist in maintaining adequate stock levels of medicines and consumables in respective units/departments and submit requests for refills, as appropriate.
• Manage respective unit/department as required based on duty roster.
• Support other staff in the hospital to deliver care as may be required.
• Ensure accurate documentation, appropriate storage, and safety of client information, such as medical history, reports and examination results.

• Participate in induction and orientation of new members of staff and students/interns to their new working environment, working as their role model.

The post holder will be expected to provide support, care and advice to our clients to facilitate their speedy recovery. The position holder will be a responsible, compassionate, and well-trained professional able to give the best nursing care with little or no supervision, and according to care and safety guidelines. The goal is to promote patient’s well-being by providing high quality nursing care. The successful candidate will receive a one-year full-time contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds.
Primary duties and responsibilities
• Monitor patient’s condition and assess their needs to provide the best possible care and advice.
• Observe and interpret patient’s symptoms and communicate them to physicians.
• Maintain accurate clinical records.
• Collaborate with other staff (doctors, nurses, and midwives) to devise individualized care plans for patients.
• Perform routine procedures (e.g., taking vital signs, administering injections, etc.) and fill in patients’ charts.
• Administer medicines based on medical prescriptions, and on hospital policy.
• Implement and maintain excellent infection prevention and control procedures.
• Collaborate with medical doctors to provide instant medical care during emergencies.
• Assist surgeons during surgical procedures.
